Co do formy:
nie jestem zdecydowana, raczej wolę łączenie stylów, więc może być całkiem niezły misz-masz, od dziennika po poradnik.

What is worth-visiting in Poland?

Oto część maila, którego wysłałam do moich amerykańskich znajomych. Pewne rzeczy są skrócone.

"...Guys, I've forgotten how beautiful is Poland during autmun. It's called Polish Golden Autumn. In the attachment you have some photos which I've taken today mornin'. This is backyard of my home.
OK
Kraków I leave your friend. He's the best guide for u.

I was thinking and I have some destinations for u.
First look at these beautiful, colorful nature during this time.
Zakopane which is 2hours by bus/car from Kraków or about 4 hours by train(?!) is good to visit. I haven't been there before but I've met in the train guys from Zakopane and lady from Kraków and they told me that this weekend it will be great weather in Zakopane and all of them are in love with Zakopane. Make some trips in Tatra Mountains/Tatras(Tatry) - They are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains.

"Some peaks such as the Red Wierchy (Czerwone Wierchy) or Ornak take in autumn red color. That's because at that time the plant called sita skucina ceases blossoming, which abundantly grows peaks had mentioned. Trail leading to Red Wierchy at the autumn season abounds in magnificent scenery and colors." http://www.myzakopane.pl/index.php/polska-zlota-jesien-w-tatrach/
It's worth to see Kasprowy Wierch. To the top u can get ropeway or one of the tourist delineated path for example Goryzkowa Valley (Doliną Goryczkową) or Crawler Hall (Halą Gąsienicową).

"U can reach one of the most difficult peaks like The Scratches/Cracks(Rysy), Aquiline Perć(Orla Perć) or Zawrat Mountain Pass(Przełęcz Zawrat) or you can go to have a walk one of gorgious Tatra valley. It's also worth-discovering by bike." http://www.myzakopane.pl/index.php/polska-zlota-jesien-w-tatrach/

" The Cracks/Scratches(Rysy) - a mountain which has three peaks, the highest of which is the center (2503 m), located entirely within the territory of Slovakia. The top of the north, through which runs the border, is the highest Polish point(2499 m)." wikipedia.pl
U can get to the top of Gubałówka by mountain raliway and see panorama of Zakopane and taste  mulled wine in one of the taverns.
This region is special one because is inhabited by ethnic group Górale - The Gorals. Generally speaking, The Gorals are people who live near mountains and in the mountains. But in Polish dimension that are polish who live in this area and they're called 'Podhalanie'(from Podhale) becuase we have many groups of the Gorals in Poland - the Gorals from this part of mountains, from others and so on.
Why is that special region? And has it got its own specific atmosphere and culture? There are many reasons. You know - mountains, in the past it was an obstacle to have connection with the centre of the country and in the past there were not something like globalisation. But anyway you know that... . The polish Gorals from this area called Podhalanie as I wrote(they're also diffrent groups of them - it's more complicated typology but I don't want to stir in ur head - I don't know this exact typology either so...it's not so necessary). In the past there was influence on this area came from German XIV century; XV century from south-east of Europe - but not so far - it's said from Romania, from South Carpathian Mountains. T

I recommend u to taste oscypek cheese (smoked sheep cheese) because it is unique for this region but try to find real one(it should have certificate from European Union or maybe u will have luck and find real people who make it on their own. See the traditional costumes, hear the music, hear the language and compare it with polish. Enjoy!
U should see:
Valley of Five Polish Ponds -
Maritime Eye(Morskie Oko) is the largest and fourth deepest lake in the Tatra Mountains. It is located deep within the Tatra National Park, Poland.
Giewont (pronounced Gyeh-vont) is a mountain massif in the Tatra Mountains of Poland, and is 1,895 metres AMSL at its highest.
Sandomierz
Zamość - the perfect renaissance city
Oświęcim - German extarmination camp during WW2 Auschwitz-Birkenau
Cieszyn - Polish-Czech city; it's really nice city because the culture is mixed; u can cross the border cause there are two parts of this city. In the past the history was complicated in this region because the property of this city was changing all the time.
If u can go to Bieszczady mountains - I really love them!!!!
Go to Wrocław definitely!
If u will be in Wrocław go to Sudety mountains to see this beautiful(but damaged) small towns, countryside. The architecture is German and it wasn't damaged during WW2. I can recommend u Lądek-Zdrój. I have there some friends so just let me know if u want to contact them.
In Częstochowa u can visit really important religious place and historic as well. Every year in the summer there are many pilgrimages(many, many people go there like in thousands) by feet/bikes and so on which go to see the sacred image of Our Lady of Czestochowa. I went there 11 times.
Warsaw
Łódź - maybe u will be interested in this specific manufactural architecture from XIX century.
Kazimierz Dolny!
Nałęczów
Toruń
Gdańsk - in this area that are three big cities Gdańsk Gdynia Sopot - and it's tricity because u can pass them and the borders change smoothly one after another cause they're so close.
Masuria(Mazury) - the land of lakes; it's an expression - Masuria wonder of nature and there is a rhyme in polish language so I can retranslate that - Masuria wonder of naturia. ;] I don't know how it's in autumn. Definitely for me in autumn the best is in mountains and in forests. Go to forest with someone who know the mushrooms and keep some mushrooms. It's called in Poland Grzybobranie - Mushrooms Picking.

Masuria is a natural region in northeastern Poland famous for its 2,000 lakes.
The landscape of the region was formed by the last ice age around 14,000 - 15,000 years ago in Pleistocene. The terrain is mostly hilly, with connecting lakes, rivers and streams. Forests account for about 30% of the area.[1] The northern part of Masuria is covered mostly by the broadleaved forest, while the southern part is dominated by pine and mixed forests.[2]

Poland is like that from south - mountains, hills, flat and sea. More less.

Taste - pierogi, bigos and ogórki kiszone - it's not spoiled food, gołąbki, alcohol tincture, hooch, polish beer I don't know, ask 'beer man' but about this local beers, kapusta z grochem,
Try to find communist atmosphere and the trial of recovering after WW2 and Communism.
If u will be in Warsaw I can get u to the hotel where I was working and show u interiors from time before WW2.
This is specific time between wars. Atmosphere was unique. After WWI Poland appeared on the international stage as country 'cause we were under three annexations/partitions (Russian, The Prussian and Austrian) by 123 years.

Go to church on Sunday, see how many people is in church. But we're not all catholic 'cause some of people believe and participate in life - go to church and so on, some people believe and don't go to church, some people don't believe and go to church, for some people it's not important it's like habit, but nowadays there are more and more people, especially young people who don't believe.

Why are so many people in Poland who are Catholics? There are many aspects but generally(I don't like it but for each subject it should be an essay but first I don't want to spend at the computer the whole day, secondly I don't have so much knowledge) so generally, it is because of past. In the past during the annecations/partitions, WW2, communism people felt free in church. Church helped a lot people and people could say whatever they want in church. It's really important role in my society."
